Bluepha BioFAB

Bluepha BioFAB, located in Binhai Coastal Industrial Park in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, is a biofabrication facility designed by XING DESIGN for Bluepha. Bluepha is committed to nurturing new biomaterials and molecular materials, and driving innovation in various aspects of life, including apparel, food, housing, transportation, and medicine. Its flagship product, a naturally occurring microbial polymer known as Bluepha PHA, aims to replace plastic to create a green, sustainable future.

Before the temperature-controlled fermentation water is discharged, it forms shallow pools on the roof of the office building. The architecture resembles a petri dish feeding new biomaterials. Water ripples connect life and matter.

Life begins at the water's edge, and above it are the eternal laws of nature. The rise of technology and human civilization depends on understanding and harnessing the laws of nature. The same goes for synthetic biology. The exhibition hall, reception room and executive conference room protrude above the water, offering an endless panoramic view of the water and sky.

The column design blends with the planters and print cabinets, giving them a sculptural look with holes in the ceiling. The interplay of ripples of light and water creates a dynamism of shadows, reminding people of their noble mission beyond the realm of everyday life. And in the vast wilderness, it is this sense of purpose that binds people together.

The vast and boundless surroundings of the building, while visually stunning, can evoke a sense of isolation over time. Therefore, on the south side of the building, we created a linear courtyard surrounding a green area with a beautiful scale, and combined it with the ​​factory security wall. Within the courtyard, there are guards’ rooms, meditation rooms, salon lecture halls, gymnasiums, and MEP’s, attractively connecting the different spaces and infusing inspiration into daily work.
