The swaying fixed point - is it possible to think of architecture in terms of a structure in which physical sensations are the determining factor? In this architecture, we began to think separately of the structure that bears the horizontal force and the outline of the building, without making the improvement of the previous form a proposition for the structure. Finally, we created a structure in which a thin rectangular frame defining the living area wraps around a spine-like polygonal frame placed in the center of the space. They both act as if they have separate intentions while influencing each other.
Hence, when determining the position and cross-section of the organ, there is scope to rely on bodily sensations to make decisions within the scope of rules that ensure mechanical rationality. The design progresses as the structure sways, which is meant to be a fixed point. For example, if the distance between the columns widened a little more, it would be more comfortable, and if the angle of the beams was a little deeper, the space would feel more connected.
This project is a house for a family of six, built in a residential area that is neither in the city center nor in the suburbs. In order to create a sheltered place for the family amid beautiful landscaping and a site environment unrelated to the neighborhood, we arranged a courtyard layout with small volumes tied together. A family is a group of individuals who have strong bonds, but who are independent of each other.
We envisioned a space where intimate and personal distances exist simultaneously while respecting such relationships between individuals and feeling each other's signals and actions. Continuous columns and beams are the "whole" that makes up the closed circular polygon, but they are also the "parts" that create the space. Unconsciously, it becomes a landscape that loosely divides the space in our lives and, if we turn our attention to it, a place of refuge or a friend.
In addition, even in a space connected to another that can be walked around, different appearances and disappearances occur due to the scattered columns, and the complexity of the perception area makes it possible for each family member to spend different times, happening at the same time. Be able to accept various events.
If we assume that what rationality has brought about in modern architecture is a mechanical and static system, then we believe that the spatial forms in which physical sensations can intervene as determinants are equipped with a human and dynamic system. Is it possible? This swaying fixed point reveals our fixed thoughts and connects people to people, people to things, and people to events.
