Text description provided by the architects. At the entrance to Vieux-Longueuil, located between its residential and commercial areas, on a plot of land left uncultivated for many years, Studio Jean Verville architects has erected a dental complex of 2,600 square meters based on the concept of biophilia.
Responding to the needs of Dr. Anh Tuan Nguyen and his team - primarily for a light and airy clinic - while respecting the philosophy of 'minimum means to maximize effects', the studio favored a minimalist intervention based on innovative use of materials and meticulously executed construction methods. Clinique dentaire St-Charles presents architecture that highlights the green spaces and activities of the adjacent Catherine-Primot Park, as well as the urban vitality of this desirable sector of Longueuil.
The peripheral distribution of thirty-five treatment spaces, all equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and full universal access, provides each patient, as well as members of the clinic team, with a visual connection to the surrounding nature. Structural, regulatory, luminous and acoustic frames generate a rhythmic composition that builds volumetric identity while animating it with repetitions and overlays of a functional and aesthetic character.
The framing results in shadow games that combine with architectural elements to display a visual poetry that evokes the abundance of nature. Strategies are deployed to highlight contrasts between indoors and outdoors, and to improve the sense of white dominance through contrasts and backlighting. In addition to its architectural expression, the clinic blends harmoniously into its sector by multiplying images of green spaces and neighboring buildings in a restorative mirror effect.
Besides its achievement as an integration of vital elements that contribute to the well-being of all, Clinique dentaire St-Charles generates activities and atmospheres that place them in a living context, thus contributing to the vitality of the sector.
As well as a sense of urban safety. When lit up, the complex is a landmark marking the entrance to the bustling Vieux-Longueuil business district.
