New Proposal for Sol-Generation Connection General. The goal of this project is to connect Sowol-gil and Duteopbawi-gil, which were cut off by cliffs in Huam-dong village. Far from the simple device nature that overcomes the level differences of existing Sowol-gil approaches, we wanted this building to become a new path open to all and a space where people come together and make stories.
Most urban spatial experiences happen on the road. The architecture also takes into account the relationship between the road and the space in the existing road environment. We wanted to make this project a new road in the village itself, not a fragmented relationship between the existing road and the space. I would like to note what experiences and changes will be made through this project.
The roads were given to the villagers. I wanted to make it open architecture with abundant spatial experience by using the step difference of about 15 meters between Duteopbawi-gil and Sowol-gil. The path that started as the main character in the middle of the building naturally attracts people. The flow of the road starts from Duteopbawi-gil, passes through the three-dimensional space created by architectural spaces and roads, and ascends facing the scenery of Seoul. Finally, you reach Sowol-gil, and you get to the rooftop terrace where you can see Namsan Mountain and the view of Seoul together.
Create a village. At each stage of the road, an experience item that captures people's activities is placed to create a vertical hamlet. The three-dimensional road-connected spaces are designed according to the environment at different heights, and open programs for residents are placed in each space.
Change and persistence. For more than 100 years, I wanted this place to be a meaningful place in the city, and to do that, I wanted to use compelling, long-lasting textures, shapes, and textures that could respond well to various changes. The textures of the staircases, slabs and retaining walls were determined with respect to form and rhythm using an exposed concrete formwork.
Firstly, the stairs, which play a central role in the space, use EPS mouldings. Through the dense arrangement of the curved vertical inscription, attention was paid to the verticality and rhythm created by the shadow. The space on each floor is designed with raised edges to emphasize the horizontal panels. In addition, the horizon rhythm was projected to match the vertical staircases in three dimensions by lightly articulating them with PET plywood. In addition, the outer shell was made of glass by miniaturizing the wall with vertical beams. Through this, the landscape created by the buildings and their surroundings has been actively observed, and the nature of the space can change freely. The retaining walls surrounding the building revealed the rough nature of the existing terrain by chiseling the concrete.
